PRESS: Aeroflot carries out some flights to cities closed by virus

MOSCOW, Aug 10 (PRIME) -- Russian flagship airline Aeroflot has suggested carrying out a few flights to nine out of 87 cities of its international destination network despite earlier cancellations in the wake of pandemic restrictions, business daily Vedomosti reported on Monday, citing flightradar24 and sources in the airline.

Aeroflot last week cancelled several flights to the countries closed due to the pandemic and pledged a return of money or reimbursement in vouchers to the passengers.

According to the sources cited by Vedomosti, Aeroflot planned to carry three flights to Barcelona, Paris, Prague and Frankfurt in the week from August 8 till Friday, two flights to Rome and New York, one flight to Amsterdam, Tel Aviv and Los Angeles. The flights scheduled for August 8–9 were made, and the orders from Friday are not accepted.

Sources in Aeroflot said that the company flies to closed countries to carry cargo but registers passengers living or having resident cards in these states in order to avoid dead freight.

Representative for the company Mikhail Dyomin said that tickets for some of the destinations cannot be booked because there is no certainty as to when these countries will be open.
